**U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag

.30-40 Krag. 30" barrel length. SN: 415192. Blued metal finish with polished bolt set in straight wrist walnut stock with half length upper handguard. Bolt action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged via trapdoor to right receiver. Item mounts adjustable 1901 pattern rear ladder sight paired with a pinned front blade. Receiver is struck with MODEL 1898. marking followed by U.S./SPRINGFIELD. Wrist displays a circle P marking while the left wrist retain a crisp JSA/1902 inspector's cartouche of Joseph Sumner Adams, who took over the role of inspecting new arms at Springfield Armory following the death of the ubiquitous Samuel W. Porter. Wrist further struck with the number 50.

Condition
Good. Bore is dirty with some dust and residues that should clean to Bright with strong rifling throughout, and some scattered light pitting. Metal finish is thinning overall with brown patinated streaks and patches over the barrel and receiver. Finish has worn off on the stock fittings which show primarily brown patina. Some spots of oxidation on the butt. Bolt shows mottled gray patina forming with brown patina to the bolt handle. Stock exhibits scattered dents, handling wear, and scuffs. Some chipping to the upper edges of the forend with signs of light sanding.
